It is with great excitement and anticipation that we await the start of this great month of Ramadan once again. Ramadan brings with it great blessings and bounties – opportunities to excel and flourish in piety and closeness to Allah. It is the harvesting season of righteousness, with its fasting during the day and prayers at night. It is the month of the Qur’an, wherein this timeless Guidance of Allah is recited, memorized and reflected upon.
The Prophet (S) said in a truly inspiring hadith, “When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are shut, and the devils are chained.” (1)
Amongst all this, it is the charity given to the poor and destitute. Ramadan is a time where many amongst us fulfill our obligations of Zakat on our wealth and also the Zakat-ul-Fitr. This year again, for the fifth consecutive year, we will Insha-Allah be collecting and distributing your Zakat and Zakat-ul-Fitr on your behalf.
Think about how your wealth can bring upliftment to so many lives, and plan ahead this Ramadan to take maximum advantage of the opportunity! Let us endeavor to emulate the great example of the Prophet (S), about whom Abdullah ibn Abbas (R) reported:
“The Messenger of Allah (S) was the most generous of men; and he was the most generous during the month of Ramadan when Jibreel visited him every night and recited the Qur’an to him. During this period, the generosity of the Messenger of Allah (S) grew faster than the rain-bearing wind.” (2)
Give your Ramadan a great head start and take the lead over your peers! Wishing you a blessed, productive and accepted month of Ramadan!
